Summer Student Job Postings: Community Literacy Outreach Worker

35 hours/ week for 8 weeks


RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work alongside Raven Tale Revival Coordinator and senior staff to accomplish identified goals

• Liaison with neighbours, community groups and partners to identify learner needs

• Conduct community outreach questionnaires and surveys to inform programming

• Develop marketing and promotional material to communicate the objectives of the program

• Deliver literacy program: reading, writing, communication, planning, math & digital literacy

• Answer the phone and complete filing and administrative tasks

• Act as a mentor, maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality

• Help maintain website and blog, update and post to social media

• Organize events promote literacy and participate in fundraising activities

• General housekeeping tasks: sweeping, vacuuming, organizing, cleaning


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Full-time returning student

• Legally entitled to work in Canada, between 16 and 30 years of age, and a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, or have refugee status in Canada.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; fluent in English

• Must undertake a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check as a condition of employment

• Excellent computer skills: MS office suite, e-mail, web applications and experience with Adobe Creative Cloud


ASSETS:

• An interest or training in literacy, education or community development

• Exhibit an energetic and creative spirit, ethical approach to work, and willingness to try new ideas

• Strong organizational and time-management skills, and excellent computer skills

• Ability to collaborate and work independently

• Confident with a positive attitude

• Experience with blogging, website management and video editing
